About Jacob

I'm a certified teacher with a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida, along with certifications and endorsements in K-6 general education, 5th-9th grade mathematics, ESOL, and K-12 Reading. I graduated with honors, earning a spot on both the President's List and Dean's List.

My classroom experience is in elementary math and science (K-6), where I delivered standards-aligned instruction and worked closely with students who needed extra support to catch up or build confidence in a subject. I'm also certified to teach math through 9th grade, so I'm well-prepared to support middle schoolers with math specifically, even though my hands-on classroom time has been at the elementary level. I've worked one-on-one with English language learners and students with individualized learning plans, so I'm comfortable adapting my approach to fit how each student actually learns best.

I bring the same preparation and structure I use in the classroom to every lesson — I show up ready, communicate clearly with parents about progress, and treat every session as a chance to build real understanding, not just get through homework.

About the lesson

My teaching method:
I build every lesson around a quick check of where a student actually is, not just their grade level, but what specific concept is challenging. From there, I break the topic into smaller, concrete steps and use visual models, real-world examples, and lots of practice problems until the concept clicks, not just gets memorized. I check in frequently during the lesson rather than waiting until the end to see if something landed.

A typical lesson:
We start with a few minutes reviewing what we covered last time and clearing up any lingering confusion. Then we move into the new concept, working through examples together before the student tries similar problems on their own while I'm there to catch mistakes early. We close with a couple of independent problems to check understanding, and I send parents a short note on what we covered and what to practice before next time.

What sets me apart:
I have formal training and hands-on classroom experience specifically in how students learn math and science, plus an ESOL endorsement and Reading endorsement, which means I'm equipped to support English language learners and students who struggle with the reading side of word problems and science texts, not just the math itself. I also have real experience with intervention: identifying exactly where a student fell behind and building a plan to close that gap, rather than just re-explaining the whole unit.
