My approach to teaching Filipino balances language mastery — grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing — with a deep appreciation of Filipino culture, literature, and values, because our language is the heart of our identity.
I use a communicative and practical method: I prioritize using the language in real-life conversations and situations rather than just memorizing rules. I teach grammar and structure within the context of stories, poems, songs, and essays so that lessons become meaningful and easier to remember. I follow scaffolded learning: starting from the basics, building step-by-step, and connecting new lessons to what the student already knows. I keep lessons interactive through discussions, reading analysis, writing practice, and guided feedback so students feel confident to speak, ask questions, and learn without fear of mistakes. I also adjust my pace and style to match each student’s level, strengths, and learning needs.
