About Nancy
My passion for teaching stems from an early age. From an early age I would create a classroom in my living room with imaginary students, and pretend to be their teacher, demonstrating what I have been taught in school that day. It happened for a while and at a point, I became tired of teaching imaginary students as it was not as interactive and interesting as school was. And playing a teacher as well as different students with different accents did not "look good" at first sight (not that I cared at the time). At about the age of 12 years of old, I organised 'after school lessons' for the kids in my area to teach real students who were willing to learn and help them to expand their knowledge as well as reinforcing my knowledge. I am still very keen on teaching young kids, as well those preparing for their GCSE and A Level exams, giving them extra lessons out of school hours. In the past 2 years, I have been giving private lessons mainly to relatives and close friends. Due to educational requirements, I did not get involved with tutoring as I would love to. However, I am very much ready to teach anyone now, seeing that I have more spare time being at University.

"A good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it" Hi, my name is Nancy. I would love to be your tutor. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Sheffield, and I live in Newcastle out of term-time. I am an outgoing, approachable and friendly individual. Studying an engineering degree has helped to tremendously improve my organisational and problem-solving skills. I have become more independent, tolerant and creative. These skills and qualities I feel are important to have as a tutor. I was born in Nigeria where I received quality education and I had the opportunity to teach people from diverse backgrounds in my community. I believe teaching is a two-way process; whilst you teach someone there is a lot that you can learn and gain from the experience. We can never know too much so I would like to continue growing and learning as well. I don't have a structured lesson plan because I know every student is different, so my teaching style is different and unique for each student. Learning should be fun. So, I would propose getting to know each person’s individual learning style and structuring the lessons to that, this would ensure you are getting the most out of the lessons. However, I would keep in line with the syllabus to ensure that you are prepared for the future. Finally, I totally agree with what Jean Piaget said, "the principal goal of education is to create individuals who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done".
