About Thea
I have 9 years of experience teaching chess to students of all ages, from absolute beginners to competitive players preparing for tournaments. I hold a B.Sc in Cognitive Science and Applied Game Theory, giving me deep insight into strategic thinking, problem-solving, and pattern recognition. My teaching approach blends technical skill-building with strategic development, helping students think critically and act confidently.
In my lessons, I emphasise tactical understanding, positional awareness, calculation, visualisation, and game analysis. Each session is tailored to the student’s skill level, goals, and preferred learning style, creating a supportive, focused, and engaging environment. I foster patience, adaptability, and logical reasoning to develop both skill and confidence in every student.
Outside of teaching, I continue to study advanced chess theory, modern competitive games, and historical matches to provide context and inspiration for my learners. Watching students grow from hesitant beginners to skilled and confident players is profoundly rewarding. My mission is to cultivate strategic thinkers who enjoy chess and carry critical thinking skills into all areas of life.

Chess lessons flourish when students combine strategic insight with tactical mastery. I focus on openings, middlegame tactics, endgame precision, positional evaluation, calculation skills, pattern recognition, visualisation, and decision-making under pressure. Lessons integrate interactive practice, puzzles, simulated games, and competitive scenarios to build confidence, critical thinking, and adaptability. Students learn to analyse positions, anticipate opponents’ moves, and plan multi-step strategies while enjoying the intellectual challenge of chess.
Lesson plans are customised according to the student’s proficiency. Beginners develop piece movement understanding, fundamental tactics, check patterns, and basic strategy. Intermediate learners refine positional evaluation, tactical combinations, and planning techniques. Advanced students study deep opening theory, complex endgames, psychological preparation, and tournament strategy. Every session blends exercises, analysis, and feedback to ensure meaningful progress and long-term skill development.
The objective is to help learners become thoughtful, confident players capable of solving complex problems on and off the board. Chess lessons cultivate analytical reasoning, mental agility, patience, resilience, and strategic foresight, enhancing performance in academics, decision-making, and life skills.
