About Ewan
I am a dedicated chess tutor with 7 years of experience teaching students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players. Over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding around 200 students on their chess journey, helping them develop critical thinking, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills. My teaching style centres on personalised learning, ensuring that each student’s unique strengths and goals are addressed. I believe that every learner benefits from tailored instruction that builds confidence and fosters a love for the game. I focus on breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, using interactive exercises and real-game analysis to make lessons engaging and practical. My commitment is to help students progress at their own pace while challenging them to reach new heights. Beyond technical skills, I emphasise sportsmanship, patience, and mental discipline, which are essential both on and off the board. I focus on building a solid foundation through understanding openings, tactics, and endgame principles, tailored to each student’s level and goals. I use interactive exercises, puzzles, and real-game analysis to make learning engaging and practical. Encouraging a growth mindset, I support students in learning from both wins and losses to continually improve their skills. Beyond chess, I also offer tutoring in related subjects that strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. My goal is to provide well-rounded support that helps students excel not only in chess but in their overall intellectual development. Together, we work towards mastering the game with confidence and integrity.
