About Cameron
// While I have had a passion for teaching and working with children since I was 15 years old and still a kid myself, my current position as an online math tutor has opened my eyes to the benefits of remote teaching. As much as I enjoy teaching math, my passion will always be guitar, so I am excited to where I began as a guitar instructor!
// Although I have worked with students of all ages, I specialize in working with children. Building off of their energy comes very naturally to me, and it is always so rewarding to see how quickly a child can grow when they are taught according to their age and strengths. I have a background in teaching children with learning disabilities and behavioral problems, and am happy to provide a safe and comfortable space for anyone. I frequently find that, other than the student themself, loving parents know their children best, so I always welcome any advice a parent may have regarding the teaching styles that work best for their student.
// I am currently studying to obtain a Master in Social Work, which I plan to use as a youth and adolescent mental health counselor (while continuing to teach guitar on the side, of course!).

If you're looking for low-pressure, enjoyable lessons led by a patient instructor with a solid teaching background, you're in the right place!
// The foundation of my teaching lies in forming a positive and nurturing environment for my students. I have found that the most learning occurs when students are enjoying themselves, so lessons always start with a quick check-in to make sure I can met my student where they're at.
// For new students, depending on their goals/motivation/mentality, we will begin with one or more of three things: basic chords, the melody of a short, familiar song, and/or a scale. Once a student has established the foundations of playing guitar, I create a personalized lesson plan for them based on their musical aspirations. This typically includes a mixture of learning songs of the student's choosing, some applicable music theory, and some exercises to assist in the development of their musical ear. Students always leave class with something to practice for next time.
// Note: I suggest 30 minute weekly lessons for kids to account for their attention spans, especially if it's an online lesson, but this is just a suggestion and I am open to providing longer lessons as well.

Details
I have found 30 minutes to be a sufficient amount of time for most guitar lessons, especially with kids. For the first lesson deal, I offer a 60 minute free session to allow for introductory time and working out technical issues if relevant. In the case that 2 free 30 minute sessions are preferred, that's totally fine with me! After that, the rate $20/hr as stated, so 30 minute lessons would be $10 each.
