This is a beautiful language and there are infinite things to take from it. Latin shows an entire society hiding like a ghost behind each aspect of our thought and language formation:
etymology, epistemology, linguistic formation, philosophy, politics, even recipes-- all are there. So are jokes, so are stories and romance and scraps and scribbles. Latin is very much NOT a dead language for these reasons.
My goal for every student is to teach the foundations needed to sight read Latin works. Reading will be easy and growing hard, but with a proper goal in mind I guarantee that Latin will come easier than anyone would believe. There is nothing more rewarding than learning this language or (for me) the privilege to share my knowledge.
