About Benjamin

I spent my first year in the industry, touring around the UK with several different companies. Theatre and concert engagements have allowed me, since then, to perform at the Händelfestspiele, the Opera Chemnitz, Landesbühnen Sachsen, Central Theatre Leipzig, The Capitol in Mannheim, as well as venues in the UK, the US, Spain and Finland and China. After coming home from the first two-week run was when I received my first taste of coaching in musical theatre voice. The experience I gained in those first 18 months on stage and screen, in opera, operetta, theatre and musical theatre allowed me to further develop skills I learned whilst studying. During this time I coached a number of actor/singers and actor/dancers, helping them prepare for auditions. In Leipzig, I studied under Prof. Berthold Schmid and for vocal pedagogy under Prof. Ilse Otto, gathering influences that have shaped my development as an artist and a tutor. Going through the music college process has allowed me to help others prepare for auditions to German music colleges, for both the classical voice and jazz courses. Since 2016 I have taught beginners, experienced professionals, and people in vocal recovery, in a range of vocal styles. I currently have students working on repertoire such as, Opera, Musical theatre, metal and rock. Through my varied experience, I can help my students improve the skills they already have and learn new ones.

About the lesson

I teach classical method as a strong basis for many styles of singing, such as, classical, musical theatre, jazz and rock. A lesson usually consists of 20 minutes of technical exercises and 25 - 40 minutes working on applying those exercises. A lesson can be between 45 and 75 minutes. I studied Musical Theatre voice (BA) at Trinity Laban and classical voice (BMus) and Opera (MMus) at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. I have worked regularly as a singer and voiceover artist since 2012. For the teaching qualification I studied in Leipzig, which included workshops with Professors from all over Germany and the United States, including Melanie Sonnenberg, Prof. Michael Dixon, Dr. Jeanette Favoro-Reuter and Prof. Sascha Wienhausen. I have been teaching people how to use their voice safely and effectively, whether that be sung or spoken, regularly since 2016. I have also coached one on one, in pairs and ensembles in workshops whilst on tour with different ensembles (Ensemble Nobiles, Anúna, Auditivvokal Dresden). My lessons are for all ages: for those who are already experienced and are looking to build up their technique again and also for complete beginners who have never sung a note.
