About Natalie
Born in Georgia, I’m a southerner by birth and miss this culture quite a bit. I’ve lived in a number of different places in the U.S., spent several summers in Israel and look forward to traveling more in the future. I love learning about different cultures and sharing my own with others.
I've had several careers in my life, the first of which was as a performer. I am very artistic, and was on the stage is one role or another from the time I was 3 until I was in my mid 30's. I went to a performing arts high school in Atlanta and danced with the Atlanta ballet until I was 21. I love most types of theater such as plays, ballets, symphonies and concerts though have never managed to sit through an opera but would be willing to try it!
Currently, I live in Chicago, Illinois, though the incredibly cold winters have me longing to head for a warmer location and I dream of moving to an over the water bungalow in the Maldives. Living on Lake Michigan is amazing, however!
I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and do some life coaching on the side. I find that this background gives me lots of extra insight into what’s going on in the world around me. I’ve taught and mentored students at a number of different Universities and ran the Clinical Masters Program in Psychology at the University of Hartford.
Because of my academic background I am very skilled at helping students get into undergraduate and graduate programs. I've been on numerous admissions committees and know what they are looking for and how to achieve it.
In addition to having my primary career in the field of psychology, I’m also a freelance writer/editor and have published hundreds of academic works, and nonfiction articles. I have also published fiction, poetry, and several scenes from a full-length stage play.
I’ve served as a literacy volunteer with children and adolescents to help them learn to read, afterschool programs to help middle school students complete their homework, and have been teaching ESL classes to people in 23 different countries.
I have lots of diverse hobbies. I enjoy fiber art, making hand made writing journals and creating others for Amazon, reading, antiquing, knitting,, hiking and white water rafting. My newest passion is gathering sea glass which I use to make jewelry, Once the world is back to normal, I plan to travel I love meeting and talking to new people and am looking forward to doing so on Superprof!

My teaching styles is student oriented and I focus on a person's strengths and how they can be used to help someone improve on their weaknesses. I am extremely positive in nature, very laid back and flexible, and I always have several ways of teaching or explaining something so if someone can't follow what I'm trying to get across I can change the way I'm presenting it until they can. Whenever possible I use humor, props, demonstrations and other ways to supplement the material I am teaching. I adjust my way of interacting and instructing to fit the style and needs of the student instead of expecting them to adjust to my way of doing things. I also like to have fun in lessons and strive to make them as interesting and individualized as possible. Having been in the field for a significant period of time I also have many stories and examples to share.
