About Julianna

I graduated Cum Laude last May from Macalester College with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies. I also minored in Portuguese and English, and worked for three years as a Spanish tutor and two years as a Portuguese tutor for the Spanish and Portuguese Department at my college.

Some fun facts about me: I hail from Newark and currently reside in Bloomfield, I studied abroad in São Paulo, Brazil during the Spring semester of my junior year, and I come from a bilingual household. My credentials also include attending the Middlebury School of Portuguese during the summer of 2025 and membership in Sigma Delta Pi (the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society) and Phi Lambda Beta (the national honor society for students of Portuguese).

About the lesson

As a former student, I understand the challenges of learning new concepts, especially if it doesn't come naturally. During my 3 years of experience as a college-level tutor for Spanish and Portuguese, I've noticed that many students struggle with anxiety about oral skills in the classroom. Instead of focusing on error correction, which can delay a student's language acquisition, I focus on exposure. Specifically, I employ TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) to properly engage students and encourage them to think in another language.

I recommend my lessons for anyone in high school and college, and in the A2 (elementary) level to C1 (Advanced) level. If you are interested in test prep, I can also assist with AP exam preparation as I've taken the AP Spanish, AP Spanish Literature, and AP English exams.
