About Serfirys
I am originally from Dominican Republic and have lived in NYC for the past 5 years. I am Deaf, so I am a native ASL user. I have been teaching ASL online professionally since 2014. I have aided many students of all ages to improve in their expressive and receptive ASL skills. I notice many students are nervous conversing with a Deaf person, so I do my best to make them feel at ease. My goal with each student is to help them feel confident when using ASL. I also focus on teaching students about Deaf culture, it plays a huge role in the students' ability to interact with others in the Deaf community. I have only one Deaf brother and majority of my family is hearing, so I understand how to explain the differences between ASL and English.

Learning ASL is different for each person, so I adapt my lessons according to the needs of each student. The majority of the time, I start the class with a brief exchange, next we practice with vocabulary words, then we use those words in targeted sentences and lastly we conclude with a review. Some students want practice to improve their conversational skills, whereas other students want to improve facial expressions, and others are just starting out with the basics. I l find joy in teaching others my language and about my culture, so whatever your level, I am here to help you.

Perfect! Serfirys was very patient with my energetic daughter and she picked up a lot of signs and spelling via Zoom! It was great to work with him!
