About Joy
Hello!
I have been dancing for over 30 years, and started my training at the Dance Theatre of Harlem in NY. During my time as a student I have also trained at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, American Ballet Theater, Virginia Ballet Theater, Ballet Magnificat!, the Russell School of Ballet, Academie de Ballet, and with Elbert Watson from Alvin Ailey.
My students have not only been accepted into schools such as Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem and the American Ballet Theatre, as well as various University's dance departments, but also have choreographed for various sports dance teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaquars.
I have produced, directed and created many productions and dances in Universal Studios, Time Square (literally on a stage built in the middle of the street), Spain, Italy, Indonesia, Pennsylvania and in my home state of Virginia. Along with being the 2023 Female Dancing with the Hampton Roads Stars Champion, I currently own a dance studio, and am working on my Performing Arts Certificate via NYU. Not only am I a Commissioner of the Fine Arts, but am also an off-ice figure skating coach.

Once I know my student's goals and experience, I will begin with starting off with a few exercises to see exactly how I need to tailor my lessons with each student.
My lessons can be held either in-person or virtually and are geared towards beginning to experience dancers and for all ages. I do not take lightly being a part of a dancer's journey, and am always honored and humbled to pass down the love and discipline of an art-form that was passed down to me.
My dance specialties are ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, conditioning (flexibility and strength), and choreography. For my figure skaters I also like to incorporate a lot more arm movement into my lessons.
With ballet I am trained in the Vaganova Method, however, since it is pretty much a fusion of how to incorporate the other forms into a not just a syllabus but also with really using the body as one musically, I can work with other ballet styles.
