About Oliver

Hi, I’m Oliver, an experienced Computer Science teacher with around 10 years of experience teaching Computer Science and IT to students aged 11–18.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Computer Games Development) and a PGCE from the University of Wolverhampton, which I completed with Outstanding status. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught students across KS3, GCSE and A Level, and I have held leadership positions including Head of Department and Second in Department.

I specialise in helping students understand Computer Science in a way that feels clear, manageable and engaging. Whether you are struggling with programming, preparing for your GCSE or A Level exams, or simply want to improve your understanding, I will adapt lessons to suit your individual needs.

My lessons are friendly and supportive, but I also set high expectations. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, so I create an environment where students can build their confidence while developing their knowledge and skills.

I have particular experience with OCR GCSE Computer Science (J277) and OCR A Level Computer Science (H446), as well as Python programming, algorithms, computational thinking and exam technique.

I believe Computer Science should be understood, not simply memorised. My lessons are designed to make difficult concepts clear, build confidence and give students the skills they need to succeed independently.

With around 10 years of classroom teaching experience, I understand that every student learns differently. I therefore tailor each lesson to the individual student, whether they are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an examination or looking to push themselves further.

My teaching is friendly, patient and supportive, but I also maintain high expectations. I want students to leave each lesson thinking, "I understand that now, and I know how to do it myself."

I have particular experience teaching OCR GCSE Computer Science (J277) and OCR A Level Computer Science (H446).

What Does a Lesson Look Like?

Lessons are usually 60 minutes and are structured around the student's individual needs.

We might begin with a short retrieval activity to revisit previous learning, before moving onto a clear explanation of the new topic. I then model examples and work through problems with the student before gradually allowing them to tackle questions independently.

For programming, students will have plenty of opportunities to write, test and debug their own code, rather than simply watching me demonstrate it.

I also use exam-style questions throughout lessons so students learn not only what an answer is, but how to apply their knowledge and gain marks in an examination.

At the end of the lesson, we review what has been learned and identify any areas that need further practice.

My Qualifications & Experience

I am an experienced Computer Science teacher with around 10 years' experience teaching Computer Science and IT across KS3, GCSE and A Level.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (Computer Games Development) and a PGCE from the University of Wolverhampton, which I completed with Outstanding status.

Throughout my teaching career, I have held a number of leadership positions, including Head of Department, Second in Department and KS3 leadership roles. I have extensive experience developing Computer Science curricula, preparing students for examinations, supporting students who are struggling and helping high-achieving students reach their potential.

Who Are My Lessons Suitable For?

My lessons are primarily suitable for students aged 11–18, including:

KS3 – Years 7–9
Building strong foundations in Computer Science, programming and computational thinking.

GCSE – Years 10–11
Supporting students with course content, programming, exam technique, revision and preparation for examinations.

A Level – Years 12–13
Developing deeper understanding of Computer Science concepts, programming, algorithms and examination technique.

I also welcome students who simply want to become better at programming or Computer Science, regardless of whether they are currently struggling.
