About Me
I am a dedicated and adaptable English tutor with a strong academic background in psychology and hands-on experience supporting diverse learners. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Psychology from Algoma University and currently work in academic administration within the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. My professional experience has strengthened my organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, all of which I bring into my tutoring practice.
My teaching approach is grounded in understanding how students learn, drawing from my psychology background and experience working in both academic and clinical-informed environments. I have supported students in various roles, including as a Teaching Assistant and Peer Tutor, where I provided individualized academic support, facilitated group learning, and helped students build confidence in their abilities. I also have experience working directly with children as a Behavioral Interventionist, delivering structured, personalized learning programs, which has strengthened my ability to adapt teaching strategies to different learning needs and developmental levels.
In my tutoring, I focus on creating a positive, engaging, and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing themselves. I tailor each lesson to the student’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals, whether they need help building foundational literacy skills, improving reading comprehension, or developing stronger writing and grammar abilities. In addition to my teaching-related experience, I am involved in research focused on improving access to mental health services and community-based care through innovative tools such as a Virtual Care Navigator. This work has strengthened my analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly—skills that directly enhance my effectiveness as a tutor.
I am fluent in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu, which allows me to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. I am passionate about helping young learners develop strong communication skills, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for learning, and I am committed to supporting each student’s growth in a patient, encouraging, and structured way.

About the lesson

I offer personalized English tutoring for students in Grades 1–8, using a student-centered and engaging approach that adapts to each child’s learning style and pace. My teaching methodology focuses on building strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension through interactive and practical strategies. I incorporate games, storytelling, visuals, and discussions to make lessons enjoyable while reinforcing key concepts. I also use scaffolding by breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps, ensuring students build confidence gradually. Differentiated instruction allows me to tailor lessons to individual needs, while consistent positive reinforcement helps foster a growth mindset and motivation to learn.
A typical lesson is structured yet flexible to meet the student’s needs. We begin with a short warm-up to review previous material through a game or quick discussion. I then introduce a new concept using clear explanations, examples, or visuals. This is followed by guided practice where we work together on activities such as reading passages, grammar exercises, or sentence construction. Students then move to independent practice, applying what they’ve learned through writing tasks or comprehension questions. Each lesson ends with feedback, where I highlight strengths and identify areas for improvement, and, if appropriate, assign optional homework to reinforce learning.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my commitment to personalized learning and my ability to create a supportive, encouraging environment. I focus not only on improving academic performance but also on building confidence and reducing anxiety around English. I use creative materials beyond traditional worksheets and prioritize making learning both effective and enjoyable. I also emphasize critical thinking and communication skills, ensuring students develop abilities that go beyond memorization. Regular communication with parents or guardians helps track progress and maintain alignment with academic goals.
