About Shonda
Earning a BS Music Industry degree from USC Thornton School of Music provided the technical foundation for my 12 years in songwriting. I remember sitting at a worn-out piano in a small practice room, realizing that great songs are simply a series of small, intentional choices. Working with aspiring artists, beginners, and working musicians has shown me that complexity is often the enemy of a good hook.
My process breaks writing into manageable steps so that finishing a track never feels like an overwhelming task. I focus on melody writing, prosody, and navigating genre conventions across pop, country, folk, and R&B styles.
Co-writing and collaboration are central to how I operate as a mentor. Understanding harmony basics allows me to help you build a solid structure for your ideas.
You will find that my approach is detail-oriented and supportive. I aim to establish a repeatable process for you to use long after our time together. We prioritize clarity over confusion.
