Creative, Expert Teacher in English in Durham/Raleigh, NC with Masters in Education

Maureen is a special teacher who displays exceptional teaching skills in the classroom. I am a special education teacher who works with emotional support program at PVHS. I currently am co-teaching an English class with her. The following are areas and strengths that I have observed working with Maureen: outstanding organizational skills, outstanding command of technology in the classroom, outstanding command of her subject matter, and highly creative approach to differentiated instruction.
Most significant is her innate ability to connect to her students. Our class has students with challenging needs. She is able to maintain a safe respectful class environment where students feel comfortable to share and participate in their learning. She teaches to the whole child. She cares for every one of her students and is able to command their admiration and respect. I have been in the field of education for over thirty years and I am confident in stating that Maureen Pfeiffer might just be the best teacher with whom I have had the privilege to observe educating students. She is a born teacher, a natural, and our school is losing an outstanding asset in both the emotional and educational domain of our students.

Maureen and I have worked together as grade level partners, graduate students, and close friends. When I arrived at Perkiomen Valley, she was my mentor, and I can say that I am surely a better teacher due to her influence and guidance. She is creative, diligent, and forward-thinking in her lesson planning, and she organizes her time, her classroom, and her curriculum to benefit her students. While she is flexible and adapts to the constantly fluctuating needs of her students, she is thoroughly prepared with thoughtfully researched lessons with an attention to detail that demonstrates her commitment to her students.

As a member of our 9th grade team, Maureen’s contribution has been unparalleled. She dedicates so much time to her craft, and she is generous enough to share with her colleagues regularly. Whether it is stepping up to volunteer for department level responsibilities, leading curriculum planning sessions, or spear heading new initiatives for student success, Maureen is an valuable collaborator.

Maureen’s passion for her students is on display every day of the week as they seek her out of guidance, encouragement, and academic support. She fosters student engagement and differentiates instruction while seamlessly incorporating effective teaching strategies, maintaining a focus on the Common Core and preparing students for the Literature Keystone Exam using Classroom Diagnostic Tools.

Lastly, although Maureen is a capable and inspirational educator, she strives to improve her teaching practice by taking graduate education courses, embracing professional development opportunities, and consistently reflecting on her own instruction to improve, adapt, and perfect her strategies.
