About Katia
I have been devoted to writing and reading since I was very young. I enjoy a good book, thought-provoking poem, and I also enjoy writing. I've always had a vivid imagination and I like to build worlds and scenarios in my work as an author. I think writing is deeply cultural, spiritual, and defines a generation and society. This is something that has been around for millennia and I don't want it to become a dying art. The ability to make our work immersive and almost like an escape from our day to day has tremendous psychologically proven benefits to our mental and emotional health. Reading and writing have always shown us ways to understand ourselves and the world around us. It's how we share ideas and grow as a society. It's how we release what's inside us. Whether it be light-hearted happy topics or things weighing heavy on us. It's information the world and generations to come can reflect on past, present, and future.
Through my own work, I've been able to see its benefits to my life. I've been able to bring my thoughts and feelings to life. It's done wonders.
The more we read and write, we literally have the world in our hands. I want to bring that world to your hands.

I embody an unconventional meets traditional approach to assisting the aspiring writer to meet their full potential. I focus on building confidence, creativity as well as critical thinking when it comes to writing, reading, literature, and prose. I balance my lessons by making learning collaborative and down to earth while maintaining structure.
My lesson plan includes getting to know the student and gauging where their strengths are and seeing what needs improvement.
If a typical session is 1 or 2 hours: I dedicate ten minutes towards assessing any trouble spots and actively listening to the student express what they're learning in class, what interests them, what doesn't interest them.
This would be conducted each tutoring session to see exactly what's being covered in class. I encourage students to bring in assigned readings and writing assignments as well as any progress reports so I can form a solid study plan.
My goal is not to make a perfect student, rather build a strong writer and one who showcases their understanding of reading material and able to form stronger arguments and responses. I place a strong emphasis on building critical thinking and positive application skills.
As the session progresses, I listen to the student's reading style. I review their written work and help them with grammar, editing, and vocabulary building. I implement a hands-on approach where they read passages or their own writing to me as a form of feedback and response so they can hear themselves, so they know what they sound like in their own writing. I believe this approach instills positive reinforcement. They can use this as a tool to pinpoint where they think improvement is needed.
I have an open discussion where we exchange ideas focused on building strength instead of criticism.
I make tutoring fun and interactive so the student feels comfortable sharing their work and expressing what may make them insecure so I can look at them holistically. Reading and writing don't have to be intimidating.
My lessons are targeted towards both creative and technical writing. It could apply to a student navigating an English class (at high school - college level), someone who is an English major, and even someone who could be curious about improving their reading and writing skills, or is looking for feedback regarding a writing project.
I am a firm believer anyone is capable of learning and expanding their knowledge.
