About Thomas

I hold a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification, so while I do not have any experience in teaching Creative Writing specifically, I do know how to teach in general - my day job as a Teaching Assistant and Teaching Cover Supervisor also helps with this.

Of course, as mentioned in my title, I do hold a Masters qualification in Creative Writing from Trinity Saint David Lampeter, located in mid Wales, where I received a 2:1. My undergraduate thesis was a submission of the first 10,000 words of a novel, focusing on mental illness. For my Masters, I specialised in graphic novels and screenplays. However, throughout my time at university and also in my free time, I have had experience writing short stories, flash fiction, novels, poetry, hymns, and even creative non fiction.

My lessons will be informal and focus heavily on actually getting you to write through fun (sometimes tricky!) exercises, sharpening your style and honing your skills. A fair amount of the lessons will be positively critiquing your work and seeking how it can be developed and refined. However, if there is something specific you would like to learn, improve, or otherwise focus on, please let me know.

About the lesson

Because of the nature of the subject, it will not be taught in a traditional ‘classroom’ style, like you may be used to in school, for example. Instead, lessons will be synergistic, informal, and focused on your writing skills, not your memory skills!

Details

If you would like me to teach you in person, then the rate is £20 per hour. If you would like me to travel, then I charge an extra £5 (unless the distance is very minimal; contact me for details). I’m willing to travel a little farther, if you would like - please just drop me a message and I will let you know. For webcam/online lessons, the rate drops to £15 per hour.

Although in-person lessons are slightly more expensive, it is worth having a creative writing tutor in the room with you, and I’m not just saying that! It’s a subject which is wonderful to do as a group or duo and you will gain much more from it. Again, please contact me if you are unsure of my pricing, or if you are unsure of your needs and want some help deciding.
