About Gracie
Hi there, my name is Gracie Jacobs. I am a current college freshman at K-State studying Elementary Education. I am offering my tutoring skills to anyone needing help with English, reading, writing, or ACT/SAT prep for the English sections. Some background information on me is that I really do love to read and write which is why I want to be a tutor for it. I began tutoring for students in English classes when I was in middle school before continuing in high school. All throughout high school, I was in advanced English classes including AP and college classes while earning a 4 on the AP American Literature exam and I scored a 35 on the reading section of the ACT and a 32 on the writing section. I also have experience tutoring for these sections of the AP exam which I did in the spring of my senior year for current juniors. I have years of tutoring experience for all ages and I am also a very enthusiastic teacher. I love English and really work to make sure all of my students have the necessary skills needed to excel in classes, on tests, and just life in general when it comes to these topics.

Reading Comprehension Strategies: - Teach students how to identify main ideas, themes, and supporting details in a passage. - Practice summarizing paragraphs and discussing the author's purpose and tone. -Study different examples of metaphors, hyperboles, alliteration, personification, similes, idioms, and more 3. Vocabulary Building: - Introduce new vocabulary words through context in reading passages. - Use flashcards and quizzes to reinforce learning and encourage the use of new words in sentences. 4. Writing Skills Development: - Guide students through the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to drafting and revising. - Provide prompts for creative writing and analytical essays, and offer constructive feedback on their work. # ACT and SAT Prep for Reading and Writing Sections 1. Familiarization with Test Format: - Explain the structure of the Reading and Writing sections, including types of questions and timing. - Review sample questions and practice tests to build familiarity and confidence. 2. Practice with Passage Analysis: - Work on practice passages, teaching students how to quickly identify key information and answer related questions. - Discuss strategies for tackling different types of questions, such as inference, vocabulary in context, and author's intent. 3. Essay Writing Techniques: - For the ACT essay, teach students how to structure their responses, develop a clear thesis, and support their arguments with relevant examples. - Review scoring rubrics to help students understand what evaluators are looking for in their writing. 4. Timed Practice Sessions: - Conduct timed practice sessions to simulate test conditions, helping students manage their time effectively during the actual exam. - Review their answers afterward to identify areas for improvement and reinforce learning. 5. Targeted Feedback: - Provide personalized feedback on practice essays and reading comprehension exercises, highlighting strengths and areas for growth. - Encourage self-reflection by having students assess their own work and set specific goals for improvement.
