About Anthony

I graduated with excellent Cambridge results, earning an A* in mathematics and A's in the rest of my subjects. I also enjoy many extra-curricular such as art, music, and sports, being fortunate enough to represent my school on the national squash court in 2021.

I taught high-school students throughout the duration of my time at Auckland Grammar School and I've found a real passion in doing so. I strongly believe that student success is rooted in discipline and technique rather than natural-born intelligence, meaning it can be taught and mastered by anyone willing to put in the effort. I started Auckland Grammar school in one of the lowest classes, 3M, and finished in the second highest, 7B, so I know what it's like to struggle in school, and I know what it takes to succeed. I hope that I will be able to help you learn from my mistakes and experience, and share the same success that I did!

About the lesson

•I aim to help struggling students increase their grades substantially by teaching them subject content as well as valuable study skills. I can help students from years 9 to 13 but I cannot teach NCEA students as I have not taken the course myself.

•General lesson structure: I start off by quickly revising what was covered in the previous lesson to ensure proper retention. I then proceed to explain a new topic in depth as well as teaching study skills along the way. I then run through some practice questions with them at the end of the lesson to make sure that the the topic is fully understood. I will then set some basic homework so that they can practice the key concepts learnt in this lesson.

•First lesson (FREE) - The first lesson will be spent getting to know each other and identifying specifically what the main areas of weakness are. I will also use this time to assess how the student studies currently, where the student is at with his course and what content needs to be covered for each subject.

•Second Lesson (FREE) - By the second lesson, I would have put together a plan for how to go about tutoring the student and will begin teaching basic content as well as begin teaching basic studying methods. Without a good foundation, the student will always struggle with learning in the future.

•Third Lesson onwards ($30) - Over time, I will be able to teach highly effective study techniques as well as guide the students through the content. As I teach, I will be able to identify where there are gaps in knowledge which are hindering the student from progressing (lack of the fundamentals is usually the most common problem for subjects like mathematics). The goal is to make the student self-sufficient so that they can eventually be able to learn and succeed by themselves without the need for them to depend on a tutor.
