About Isla

Hello everyone! My name is Isla, and I am currently in Grade 11. When I am older, I want to become either a chemist or a lawyer. Here’s a bit about my backstory: I was not the best student in elementary school, and I made poor choices regarding my grades. However, I have grown a lot ever since I began high school, as I was able to find a good studying method that helped me go from averaging in the 70s to averaging 96. I know and understand what it is like to struggle without help, so I want to offer support to those who are looking to achieve the goal of succeeding. Outside of school, I love to have fun and do activities such as escape rooms! I also like to read, and my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I love movies and shows, and some of my favorites include The Hunger Games series and Manifest. At school, I am a dedicated student who has very good grades, and I am always excited to learn! To those who are not doing as well as they wish to in their academics, do not worry. I was in that position once, and I can assure you that there is always an opportunity to learn and grow. So if any new Grade 9s need help or are wondering about the transition to high school, I am here to assist you!

About the lesson

As a Grade 11 high school student currently, I am looking to tutor new Grade 9’s who are beginning their new journey in high school. I teach by creating lessons that can be explained through regular conversation, as I find that lessons can only be understood when the person that is being taught can actually understand the words. I also explain things related to the sciences by teaching them from the beginning of time simply. For instance, I connect the elements on the periodic table to the Big Bang and how they originated to get a complete picture.

The subjects I am best skilled in are math and science, but I can also manage essays and help others improve their writing. For science, I mainly teach chemistry, but I can also teach physics.

I will mainly be teaching online, but I can always set up a meeting at a public library if required. Additionally, I am based in Toronto, Ontario. My lessons mainly cover the Ontario curriculum.
