About Manny

Manny Coleman is currently an Undergraduate Music Education student at The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. He has experience teaching a wide range of students a young at 3rd grade, up to high school.

Manny has been in 24 Musicals and 3 Operas, with roles ranging in variety, from Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, Plankton in SpongeBob The Musical, Bert in Mary Poppins, The Genie in Aladdin, to Mr. Beachum in Computing Venus (World Premiere 2024). He is an avid member of the Crane School of Music's Opera Ensemble, and continues to grow his catalog in that field.

Manny has worked under world renowned vocal icons such as Deborah Massell, Cindy Oxberry, Margaret Chalker, Steven Groth, Donald George, Andrew Voelker, and Katie Burnham.

Manny also Directs, Choreographs, Stage Manages, and Music Directs the Summer musical theatre programs for Fayetteville Rec. Musical Theatre Camp.

About the lesson

As a vocal coach, my approach is holistic and student-centered, focusing on developing a solid technical foundation while fostering artistic expression. My methods include:

Vocal Health: Emphasizing the importance of vocal health and proper technique to prevent strain and injury. This includes warm-ups, cool-downs, and exercises to strengthen vocal muscles.

Breathing Techniques: Teaching proper breath control using diaphragmatic breathing exercises to support vocal tone and sustain notes.

Pitch and Tone: Working on pitch accuracy and tone quality through ear training, scales, and interval exercises.

Articulation and Diction: Ensuring clear articulation and precise diction through targeted exercises.

Range Expansion: Gradually expanding the vocal range with exercises that are appropriate for the student’s current ability.

Musicality and Expression: Encouraging students to convey emotion and dynamics in their singing, helping them to connect with their audience.

Repertoire Selection: Choosing songs that the student wants to sing, is going to enjoy, and suits the student’s voice type, skill level, and musical interests to keep them engaged and motivated.

Target Audience
My lessons cater to a wide range of students, including:

Beginners: Individuals who are new to singing and need to build foundational skills.

Intermediate Singers: Those who have some experience and wish to improve their technique and expand their repertoire.

Advanced Vocalists: Experienced singers looking to refine their skills, prepare for performances, or tackle more challenging repertoire.

Age Range: Middle Schoolers to adults, typically starting from around age 10and up.

Genres: While I can teach a variety of genres, my focus includes classical, musical theater, jazz, and contemporary styles.
