With over 20 years in education, as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal of curriculum, and K-12 principal, I've learned that students learn best when they feel safe, seen, and successful early. My tutoring is built on three ideas: find out exactly where the student is, teach to that gap, and build confidence along the way.
I start every new student with a short, low-pressure diagnostic so I'm teaching to their actual needs, not just the grade level on paper. From there I use the "I do, we do, you do" model: I demonstrate a skill, we practice it together, and then the student works on their own while I watch and give feedback in real time. I break concepts into small, manageable steps, use visuals and real-world examples, and check for understanding often so misunderstandings don't stack up. I also bring in engaging digital tools (interactive whiteboards, leveled texts, and AI-supported resources like Diffit) to keep online sessions active rather than passive.
A Typical Lesson
- Warm-up (5 min): A quick review problem or question to activate prior knowledge and see what stuck from last time.
- Mini-lesson (10–15 min): I introduce or reteach one focused skill with clear modeling and examples.
- Guided practice (10–15 min): We work through problems together, and the student explains their thinking out loud so I can correct misconceptions as they happen.
- Independent practice (10 min): The student tries a few on their own to show mastery.
- Wrap-up (5 min): A short exit check, a recap of what they learned, and praise for specific progress. For younger students, I send parents a brief note on what we covered and how to support it at home.
What Sets Me Apart
I bring a rare mix of classroom experience and school leadership. I've taught elementary, middle, and high school, coached teachers on instruction, and led curriculum for an entire K-12 school, so I understand how skills build from one grade to the next and can quickly identify the root of a student's struggle, which is often a gap from an earlier year. I'm experienced with individualized and targeted intervention, data-driven instruction, Florida state standards and testing, and supporting students with IEPs, 504 plans, and ESOL needs. As a principal, I achieved a 100% graduation rate and launched an AP program, so I know how to help students at every level, from those who are struggling to those aiming high. Above all, I'm patient and encouraging. Many students come to tutoring feeling discouraged, and helping them believe "I can do this" is often the turning point.
Who My Lessons Are For
I work with K-12 students of all levels, including:
- Elementary (K-5): Reading, phonics, comprehension, writing, and foundational math. My bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education, so early literacy and numeracy are a particular strength.
- Middle school (6-8): Reading, writing, math, and study and organizational skills.
- High school (9-12): English, writing, test preparation, and support for students in rigorous or AP coursework.
- Students with diverse learning needs: Learners with IEPs or 504 plans, English language learners, and students who need extra intervention or enrichment.
I hold a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida and a Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Tampa.
