About Ashmita

I am a Hindustani classical vocalist, born and raised in India, with a 4-year degree (Distinction) from Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya. I bring over nine years of stage performance experience, along with a deep-rooted understanding of traditional Indian music.

Since 2021, I have been actively teaching vocal music online, working with students across different age groups and cultural backgrounds through Aarohi School of Music. My teaching focuses on building a strong classical foundation while helping students develop confidence, vocal control, and expressive performance skills.

Now based in Canada for the past two years, I am looking to contribute to a music school or institution that values cultural diversity and high-quality music education. Alongside my musical background, I also hold an MBA in Human Resources, which supports my structured, student-focused, and professional approach to teaching.

About the lesson

I am a trained vocal instructor with a strong foundation in Hindustani classical music, having completed formal training at Khairagarh University in India. With over 6 years of performance experience and ongoing international teaching, I specialize in building strong vocal technique while making learning enjoyable and accessible for students of all levels.

I currently teach students worldwide through an online music school based in Kolkata, working with learners ranging from 7 to 70 years old. My teaching approach is personalized, focusing on voice development, pitch accuracy, breath control, and confidence in performance.

Trial / Demo Class
• 30-minute introductory session: $5
• This allows us to get to know each other, discuss your goals, and ensure the classes are the right fit for you.

Online Classes
• 1-hour personalized lesson: $25 per session

Offline / In-Person Classes
• 1-hour lesson: $25 per session
• A transportation fee will be added based on travel distance and time.
• For locations within approximately 30 minutes of travel, the additional transportation charge is typically $10.
• For longer distances, the transportation fee may vary accordingly.

Lessons are tailored to each student's age, level, and learning goals, creating a supportive and enjoyable learning experience.

1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
My interest in music began at a young age, but it became more meaningful when I started learning Hindustani classical music more seriously. Over time, I realized that music is not just an art form, but also a powerful way to express emotions and connect with people. This inspired me to pursue it more deeply and eventually start teaching.
2) What makes you passionate about your subject?
What I love most about music is its ability to bring discipline, creativity, and confidence together. Hindustani classical music, in particular, has depth and structure that helps students develop patience and focus. I am passionate about helping students not only learn techniques but also truly enjoy and feel the music.
3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to share my knowledge while also learning from each student’s unique journey. Every student learns differently, and I believe in adapting my teaching style to match their needs.

What makes me a Superprof is my ability to combine structured learning with encouragement and patience. I focus on building confidence in students so they can grow at their own pace without pressure.

Yes, I have been inspired by my own music teachers who taught me Hindustani classical music. Their dedication, discipline, and attention to detail shaped the way I approach both learning and teaching. They not only taught me music but also the importance of consistency and passion in mastering any skill.

My key to success is consistency, patience, and personalization. I believe every student is different, so understanding their strengths and challenges is very important.

I also focus on creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and improving step by step. Regular practice, clear guidance, and motivation are the foundation of my teaching approach.
