About Shreya

My name is Shreya Patel, and I am an Education major with a strong commitment to helping young learners in Pre-K through 5th grade build strong, lasting foundations in math, English, and writing.

As someone studying child development and evidence-based teaching methods, I bring more than enthusiasm to each session — I bring structure, intention, and a deep understanding of how children at each stage actually learn. My tutoring is grounded in the same principles taught in leading education programs: scaffolded instruction, positive reinforcement, and lessons carefully adapted to each child's pace and learning style.

I specialize in four core areas:

• Mathematics (Pre-K through 5th grade) — number sense, operations, fractions, and early algebraic thinking
• English — phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension
• Writing — sentence structure, paragraph development, and building the habit of clear expression

My sessions are patient, purposeful, and productive. I begin every lesson by reviewing prior material to reinforce understanding, introduce new concepts through real-world examples and guided practice, and close with a brief parent update so that progress continues at home between sessions.

I take my role seriously. Every child who works with me deserves a tutor who is prepared, reliable, and genuinely invested in their success — and that is exactly what I offer.

Play-based learning
Games, visuals, and hands-on activities that make abstract concepts stick — especially for young learners.

Spaced repetition
Key skills are revisited across sessions so knowledge moves from short-term to long-term memory.

Confidence first
Every lesson starts with something the student can already do well — to build momentum before tackling harder material.

Individualized pace
No two children learn the same way. Lessons adapt to each student's strengths, gaps, and learning style.

Warm-up (5 min) A quick review game or oral quiz on last session's material. Low-stakes, high-energy start.

2 Introduce new concept (10 min)
Explain with a real-world example or story. For math: use objects, drawings, or a number line. For writing: model it out loud first.

3 Guided practice (15 min)
Work through problems together, asking questions rather than giving answers — "What do you think comes next?"

4 Independent practice (15 min)
The student works solo while I observe and take notes on where they hesitate or self-correct.

5 Wrap-up & parent update (5–10 min)
Student tells me one thing they learned today (metacognition). I share a brief note with the parent on progress and what to practice at home.
