About Alex
My name is Alex Gorbatov, I am a Melbourne-based tenor, choral director, and educator specializing in early music, contemporary Australian repertoire, and healthy, sustainable vocal technique. I’ve been directing Divisi Chamber Singers since 2019, transforming it into a critically acclaimed professional vocal group with a strong emphasis on emerging composers and community-centered projects. As a teacher, I am known for my clear technical grounding, supportive studio culture, and ability to build confident, flexible singers and musicians. I draw on my extensive performance and conducting experience to bring a practical, joy-filled, and sustainable approach.

Whether you're a professional instrumentalist who wants to learn to sing or a keen amateur, I use a Janice Chapman inspired method I provide my students with a healthy and versatile voice. I want you to leave our lessons feeling like you have a connection to the voice as a part of your body as well as your self-expression.
I have been performing professionally for 10 years and hold a first-class honours degree in Vocal performance from The University of Melbourne. I have been teaching since I arrived in Melbourne in 2018, the majority of which has been at a tertiary level.
Happy working with students of all ages through AMEB, VCE, or other exams. Otherwise, we can set our goals.
I prefer hour long lessons, online or face-to-face.
