About Shihan
I am a dental student in Manchester. I have been giving lessons in maths, biology and chemistry GCSE for a year. Prior to that I had been tutoring family and friends casually. I have had my own success in these subjects getting A's in A level in all of these subjects. In my lessons, I believe that everything is centred around the students and their individual needs, so I like to be flexible and do what the student finds the best for them. I also believe that a student should be know that as a tutor I am there to create a nurturing and comfortable environment, in order to help them reach their full potential!

I start my lessons by reviewing what the student had done in their previous lesson and to consolidate their knowledge or to help them with any difficulties they my still have. If it is our first lesson we would be reviewing the exam questionsI give to new students to see the level they are currently at.
Once this is completed, I go on to ask the student about the next topic they would like to do or find difficult. After, I will explain the concept to them and break it down until they are confident and understand the topic. When we have gone through the topic, I would set them some questions to make sure that they understand the topic. I believe that understanding a topic and not just memorising the words is crucial to ensuring that the student is able to answer the questions correctly in exam conditions. At the end the lesson, I will give the student some questions to do at home and some extra reading (e.g. a website link). This is so they can also broaden their knowledge and get a deeper understanding and application of the theory in real life. I understand that some schools may already give a large amount of homework, so if the student feel that they won't have time to complete the questions, I would not give them extra questions.
