Initially, I assimilate the learner's current level; then, I aim to challenge them with a problem at their level (such as a situation where an algorithm needs to be designed). The learner will then be guided through the pain, highlighting key issues and contextual items to be understood.
Where the learner is unsure of a particular concept, I will adapt the workflow to focus on that critical area, develop their understanding, and revisit the problem.
I always intend to make sessions student-led: for programming questions, I inspire students to talk about their train of thought, what they think of the problem, and how they would approach it, giving them hints and leading them on the correct path.
