About Mitra

Hi, I'm Mitra, and I have been studying piano since the age of three. I completed both my Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and my Master’s degree in Music Theory at McGill University, studying under Professor Sara Laimon for my undergraduate studies and Professor Robert Hasegawa for my master’s degree. I have also participated in numerous masterclasses to further develop my musicianship and teaching approach. To strengthen my pedagogical training, I completed a Minor in Music Education with a focus on children and teenagers, allowing me to continuously refine my teaching methods for young learners. I have been teaching piano since 2015, and since 2018 I have worked as a private piano instructor in Montreal, teaching students of all ages and levels. In 2022 and 2023, I also served as a Teaching Assistant at McGill University, gaining experience in a more academic teaching environment. My goal is to provide structured, thoughtful, and supportive instruction tailored to each student.

My teaching is based on a balance of structure, creativity, and encouragement. For young children (from age 3), I use games, keywords, storytelling, movement, and interactive activities to make learning natural, joyful, and motivating. This approach helps children absorb musical concepts while staying focused and confident. I specialize in working with children with ADHD and autism, and I carefully adapt my teaching pace, language, and activities to each student’s emotional and cognitive needs.
For adults, my methodology is highly personalized. Lessons are designed according to each student’s goals, musical tastes, and learning style, whether they are beginners, returning pianists, or advanced players. I teach classical, pop, film music, and other genres, and I integrate music theory for students who wish to understand music more deeply.

  • 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I developed my interest in piano at the age of 4, when I began my very first lessons. I was immediately drawn to the instrument, but what truly made a lasting impression was my first teacher. Her engaging and creative teaching methods made learning enjoyable and helped me stay fully involved and motivated from the very beginning.
That early experience shaped my path. As I progressed, my curiosity grew beyond simply playing—I became fascinated by how music works and how it can express emotions so deeply. This passion eventually led me to pursue advanced studies in music, completing both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Music Theory at McGill University.
  • 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

What makes me passionate about music is its unique balance between emotional expression and intellectual depth. Piano is not only a technical skill, but also a powerful form of communication and creativity.
I am especially passionate about helping students discover their own connection to music. Each student is different, and guiding them to express themselves confidently while truly understanding what they play is incredibly rewarding for me. I truly love seeing my students grow, improve, and gain confidence over time—this is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.
  • 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

What I enjoy most about tutoring is the ability to connect with each student individually and adapt my teaching to their unique learning style. With over a decade of teaching experience, I have worked with students of all ages—from young children as early as 3 years old to adults—as well as students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD and autism.
In addition to my private teaching experience, I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant at McGill University. This experience strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly, structure lessons effectively, and support students in an academic setting.
I have also participated in numerous concerts and academic conferences, which has enriched my musical experience and allows me to guide students not only in learning the instrument, but also in performance preparation and confidence on stage.
Additionally, I have completed specialized courses in music education and pedagogy to ensure that I am using effective, research-based teaching methods. What makes me a “Superprof” is my ability to combine strong academic knowledge, real performance experience, and a personalized, supportive approach. Seeing my students grow and succeed over time is what motivates me the most and drives the quality of my teaching.
  • 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

I have been fortunate to learn from inspiring teachers throughout my musical journey, especially during my studies at McGill University. The teachers who influenced me most were those who combined strong technical instruction with creativity and thoughtful musical interpretation.
They encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and self-expression—values that I now bring into my own teaching. Their approach showed me that a great teacher not only teaches skills, but also builds confidence and inspires a lifelong appreciation for music.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are consistency, patience, and adaptability. Learning piano is a gradual process, and I believe in steady, meaningful progress rather than perfection.
I focus on creating a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable, motivated, and confident. Setting clear, achievable goals and celebrating progress—no matter how small—plays an important role in maintaining motivation.
Finally, continuing to learn and grow both as a musician and as a teacher has been essential to my success and allows me to provide the best possible guidance to my students.
