About Dr Stephen

I’m Dr Stephen, an experienced and highly qualified primary educator with a Doctorate in Education and many years of experience working with children, families and teachers in London.

Throughout my career, I have taught and supported children across the primary age range, developing a strong understanding of how children learn, where difficulties can arise and, importantly, how the right individual support can transform both progress and confidence.

Alongside my classroom experience, I have held senior leadership roles in education, giving me extensive experience of curriculum, assessment and effective teaching and learning. I bring that expertise to tutoring while keeping sessions friendly, encouraging and completely focused on the individual child.
I believe children learn best when they feel successful. I am patient, positive and ambitious for the pupils I work with, and I particularly enjoy helping children discover that something they previously found difficult is actually something they can do.

For parents, I aim to provide the reassurance of knowing that their child is being taught by an experienced professional who understands the primary curriculum and takes the time to understand their child as an individual.

About the lesson

I am an experienced primary teacher with a Doctorate in Education, offering personalised online Maths and English tuition for children in Years 3–6.

My approach is warm, encouraging and highly responsive to the individual child. I take time to understand where a pupil is currently working, identify any gaps or misconceptions, and then build lessons around exactly what will help them make progress. Just as importantly, I want children to feel confident, successful and positive about their learning.

Lessons are typically 45 minutes and combine clear teaching, carefully chosen practice, questioning and problem-solving. I adapt my approach throughout the lesson rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all programme, and I use regular retrieval and review so that new learning is remembered rather than simply completed.

I have extensive experience teaching and leading education in London primary schools and hold a Doctorate in Education, alongside my teaching qualifications. My experience means I understand both the primary curriculum and the wider learning journey children need to make in order to succeed.
I particularly enjoy working with children who need greater confidence, additional challenge, support in closing gaps, or focused preparation for the next stage of their learning.

My aim is simple: for every child to finish a lesson knowing more, feeling more confident and believing that they can succeed.

I tutor two clients at any given time, and currently have one spot remaining.
