About Lucas
Hi, I'm an Engineering graduate from Durham University and a former Chip Verification engineer in the semiconductor industry.
I've always enjoyed Maths and Physics, particularly the challenge of taking a difficult problem and breaking it down into something much more manageable.
My professional engineering experience has strengthened my problem-solving skills and given me a practical perspective on the subjects I teach. I enjoy helping students understand the logic behind a concept rather than simply memorising a formula or following a set of steps.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I create a relaxed and supportive environment where you can ask questions, make mistakes and build your confidence. Whether you're struggling with a particular topic, preparing for exams, or aiming for the top grades, I'll tailor lessons to what you need.
I primarily teach GCSE and A-Level Maths, and I'm particularly keen to help students who want to develop a deeper understanding of the subject and become more confident problem-solvers.
I'm friendly, patient and genuinely passionate about STEM, and I'd love to help you reach your academic goals.

My approach to tutoring is centred around understanding rather than memorisation. I aim to make difficult topics feel straightforward by breaking them down into smaller, logical steps and explaining the reasoning behind each method.
Lessons are tailored to each student's level and goals. We might start by identifying areas of difficulty, then work through examples together before moving on to exam-style questions. I encourage students to attempt problems themselves and use mistakes as an opportunity to identify gaps in understanding. I also focus on tackling unfamiliar and challenging questions, improving problem-solving technique, and developing exam confidence.
A typical lesson is one hour, although I am happy to adapt the length depending on the student's needs.
I have a degree in Engineering from Durham University and previously worked as a chip verification engineer in the semiconductor industry. I achieved A* grades in A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics, giving me a strong academic foundation in the subjects I teach. My engineering background also allows me to bring practical examples and real-world context into lessons where useful.
I primarily offer lessons to GCSE and A-Level students, studying Maths. I can support students who are struggling with particular topics, those preparing for exams, and students aiming to achieve the highest grades.
My goal is for students to leave each lesson not only knowing how to solve a particular problem, but understanding why the solution works and feeling more confident tackling the next problem independently.
