I love turning “I can’t do this” into “That actually makes sense!”

Hi, I’m Ashwini, a First-Class Mathematics and Physics Integrated Master’s graduate from Durham University. I tutor Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry across GCSE and A-level, and I have several years of experience supporting students through both private and structured online tuition.

My teaching style is warm, patient and approachable. Maths and science can feel overwhelming when ideas are explained too quickly or abstractly, so I break difficult topics into clear, manageable steps. I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes and gradually develop the confidence to solve problems independently.

The most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing a student’s confidence transform. One of my proudest moments was helping a child who had been struggling with Maths improve so much that they came top of their class at end of year exams, and received a subject award!

Every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to their individual goals. This might mean rebuilding key foundations, improving exam technique or stretching a student towards the highest grades through unfamiliar and challenging problems. I use guided examples, exam-style questions and targeted feedback so that each lesson has a clear purpose.

Outside tutoring, I enjoy art, music, writing and watching science documentaries. My goal is for every pupil to leave each lesson feeling clearer, more capable and more confident.

About the lesson

My lessons are friendly, energetic and highly structured. I start by identifying exactly where a student is stuck, then break the topic into clear steps, using examples, questioning and lots of guided practice. I focus on building real understanding first, then exam technique: how to spot what a question is asking, use the right method, and write answers that gain marks.

A typical lesson is 60 minutes, though I also offer longer exam-focused sessions when needed. I tutor KS3, GCSE and A-level students in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Combined Science.

Ashwini taught me maths for my exams. I got an A1 in advanced higher maths (Scottish A level: A1 is the highest grade band) and then got accepted to Durham to study maths. Ashwini was not just good at breaking down topics, but she was also really great at figuring out when and why I didn't understand something and putting it in a different way that I could understand.
