About Roxana

I am a UK-qualified Maths teacher (PGCE, QTS) specialising in supporting students with dyscalculia and dyslexia from primary through to GCSE level. I work with children and teenagers who find Maths confusing, overwhelming, or discouraging, helping them rebuild confidence and develop clear, reliable ways of understanding numbers.

With over 15 years of tutoring experience and more than 7,000 hours taught, I have supported many students who previously felt that Maths “wasn’t for them”. My approach is patient, structured, and non-judgemental, focusing on helping each student feel safe to ask questions and learn at their own pace.

I understand that students with dyscalculia and dyslexia often struggle not because they lack ability, but because Maths has not been presented in a way that matches how they process information. I adapt explanations carefully, using visual methods, step-by-step reasoning, and repetition where needed, so concepts become clearer and more manageable.

For younger students, the focus is on building strong foundations early and developing a positive relationship with Maths. For older students, I support both understanding and exam preparation, always working at a pace that balances progress with confidence.

Before beginning regular lessons, I take time to understand how the student thinks, where difficulties arise, and what has or hasn’t worked in the past. This allows me to create a personalised learning plan that focuses on steady progress rather than pressure or comparison.

Alongside curriculum content, I support students in developing confidence, organisation, and strategies for managing anxiety, particularly for those who feel stuck or have had repeated negative experiences with Maths.

Parents often tell me that their child becomes more confident, calmer, and more willing to engage with Maths over time. My aim is not only to support academic progress, but to help students feel capable and in control of their learning again.

I work best with families who value patience, consistency, and long-term understanding, and who are looking for supportive, specialist guidance rather than quick fixes.

Each student begins with a 30-minute diagnostic and planning session. This is not a test, but a gentle assessment designed to understand how the student approaches Maths, where difficulties arise, and what learning methods feel most accessible to them. It also allows us to discuss goals calmly and set realistic expectations together.

Lessons are structured, supportive, and carefully paced to the individual student. For younger students, the focus is on building strong foundations and developing a positive, confident relationship with Maths. For older students, I support both understanding and exam preparation, always working at a pace that reduces anxiety and builds clarity.

Teaching methods are adapted for students with dyscalculia and dyslexia and may include:

• visual representations and concrete examples
• step-by-step explanations with repetition where helpful
• structured practice to build familiarity and confidence
• strategies to reduce overload and confusion

I place strong emphasis on building confidence alongside skills, particularly for students who have experienced frustration or setbacks. Lessons provide a safe space to ask questions, make mistakes, and develop strategies that work for the student rather than against them.

Homework, when given, is purposeful and manageable, focusing on reinforcing understanding rather than increasing workload. Progress is reviewed regularly, and the learning plan is adjusted as confidence and competence grow.

My aim is to help students feel calmer, more capable, and more in control of their learning, whether they are building early foundations or preparing for exams.
