About Mark

My journey began in 2013 teaching Earth science at Laredo Community College. I provided core curriculum training as a tenured instructor for an average of 580 students for Fall, Spring, and two summer sessions per year. My student count is 2610 students over 4.5 years.

I understand the concepts of teamwork, communication, empirical or quantitative skills, and critical thinking. I now understand the concept of taking multiple choice tests and how to get the critical thinking part of the brain functioning. Once critical thinking is understood, your GPA will increase. I have positive and convincing data on my hypothesis about critical thinking.

About the lesson

My name is Mark Childre and I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and I have earned both a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Geology with a specialty in karst hydrogeology.

I earned a Master of Science from The University of Texas at San Antonio where I taught a physical geology lab for two years. With a job title of Geology Instructor after I graduated with a Master's degree I taught both Earth and environmental sciences at Laredo Community College in Texas.

My class organizational skills have evolved over the last 6.5 years. I'll now introduce the subject and the reasons for this discussion. I'll talk about the physics and characteristics for the correct multiple choice question. Then, I'll talk about why the other possible answers can't be correct based on the physics and application.

Multiple choice questions are always set up in the same manner. I have data that shows a 1 letter grade improvement in the class average across the board. This concept of critical thinking makes sense to me and, most importantly this concept also now makes sense with the student. I'm not the important one because it's the student and his or her success. The student is the most important person and I should strive to help each student understand the concepts in order to give the correct response. I have found that understanding the CONCEPT is the biggest concern with the millennial generation. Once the student understands the concept he or she will give the correct response, as my data has confirmed.
