About Ben

My main qualification is having grown up in Quebec. English is my first language but I learned to speak, read, and write French both in school and community life. So I both know French well and what it feels like to have been bad at it—it wasn't easy, but I learned a lot of useful things along the way. My main interest is education—I recently went back to university to get a degree in Education and become qualified to teach. I pay close attention to students' learning and help them to address individual hang-ups and explain concepts as they arise. Learning is a beautiful thing and I am internally motivated not only to share the skills I have with others, but to get better and better at doing so. Language learning is also of specific interest to me. I've studied some Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Hebrew to various degrees, allowing me to spot connections between different language structures. This has helped me to explain important concepts to students in simple terms.

About the lesson

In our first learning session, I would take stock of what French knowledge you have, what you're hoping to learn or get better at, and start developing an approach that's tailor-made for you. Maybe you're a school student trying to keep up in your grade or hoping to excel, maybe you're an adult trying to gain some French knowledge for a job, maybe you're a recent immigrant trying to add to your PR points, maybe you know some French but struggle in certain areas. Whatever the case, we would establish that and begin building from existing knowledge. I do my best to keep things light, fun, and moving forward to help avoid discouragement. French can be hard—I know! But it feels great to become more competent and I'm here to help you get there.
