About Zelda
I am an elementary school teacher and have been teaching children both in and out of the traditional classroom for over a decade. I love making teaching fun and memorable. After completing my studies at the University of Stellenbosch I started my teaching career. I taught at various schools though out South Africa. I also home schooled my four children while living in Accra, Ghana. I have recently obtained a certificate, TEFL, Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Children are very important to me. I look forward to see your child in my classroom.

I am an elementary teacher, teaching children between five and ten years of age. Working with young children just learning to read and write I make use of all three learning styles: Audio,Visual and Kinesthetic. Total Physical Response is the combination of movement and language to enhance language acquisition coming from both the teacher and the learner. I will create an atmosphere where the learner can talk, try new things and sentences, trying to express their thoughts. Using Phonics to help learners read and pronounce words. It is important to stick to each lessons vocabulary and sentence objectives while adjusting to each learner and with what the learner is already familiar with.
The objective is always to increase the level of student output aiming at a ratio of 30% teacher to 70% student output. To achieve this there is five points to keep in mind: 1. Modelling (I do, you do, we do ) 2. Time for the student to respond. 3. Always expect full sentences. 4. Be sure to correct grammar. 5. Be consistent. Making use of props is a good way to engage students, puppets, real toys, flash cards. iPad etc. An award system is very important as a good job should always be rewarded.
Assessment is an opportunity to see what the learner has mastered and where he needs extra support and practice. Assessment should be a celebration of what the learner has learned. Testing should be made into a game and both the learner and the teacher should have fun.
