About Victoria
My teaching career began with a class of adult ESL learners in Philadelphia, followed by substitute teaching at the Southern New Jersey Academy for the Performing Arts. After relocating to California, I worked as a substitute preschool teacher and later spent 15 years in standardized test preparation, specializing in SAT, ACT, ISEE, HSPT, and GRE instruction. Later, I earned my Level 5 TEFL certification to formalize and enhance my ESL teaching skills. Throughout my career, I have taught students from a wide range of cultural, economic, and academic backgrounds. My adult learners in Pennsylvania, primarily immigrants from China and Indonesia, were low-income and ranged in age from 30 to 60. In contrast, my Southern California test prep students were mostly adolescents from affluent backgrounds with varied academic abilities. These experiences increased my capacity to adapt content, tone, and instructional methods to meet diverse learner needs. Beyond the classroom, my work in freelance grant editing and journalistic proofreading has kept my command of grammar and academic English sharp. This bolsters my ability to model and teach high-level language skills effectively.

My experiences stretch over 20 years, with over 1,000 students, ranging in age from 10-50! In both one-on-one and classroom settings, I teach with energy, humor, and passion. Whether the topic is SAT, ACT, writing, grammar, or reading, words are great fun! Communication is a skill for a lifetime, and so I banish the gloom from grammar and work with my students to give them the tools they need most!
