About David

Hi, I am David! I have been tutoring students at different levels, from 11+ up to A Level Mathematics for the last few years, with significant success . My approach with tutoring is with a single aim - to build up the critical thinking skills required by students to achieve their academic potential. Having been a student myself, I am aware of the struggles students face when it comes to understanding mathematical concepts and the hard exam questions that follow. My tutoring will involved a tailored approach to dealing with both struggles so that they can get the best possible grade and have the required maths skills neccessary to progress.

About the lesson

My personal academic journey in Mathematics sparked a keen interest in the fundamental principles of the subject area that paved way for me to excel in both GCSE and A Level Mathematics with top grades. Having had a personal understanding of the importance of laying down a good foundation of improving ones understanding of complex mathematic topics has allowed me to teach in a way that successfully develops ones understanding of major topic areas in Mathematics and thus allowing students to exceed their full potential.

My tutoring style is not like standard lessons where topics can be unenthusiastically taught at a surface level, but it is tailored to the needs of the student to build their problem-solving skills, which is the most important skill needed to get through exams and aim for the top grades. This is done by a heavy focus on practice, but also by focusing on the intuition behind the topic, where students not only have a very strong foundation in a topic area but are also able to form links between different topics and apply this skill to answering various types of Maths questions in an exam setting.

I have applied this method across A Level and GCSE students in the past and successful outcomes of improved confidence in answering Maths questions and improved grades were observed following the application of this method.
