About Neil's
I love to teach and would you love to help you reach your goals!
You'll see more about my teaching, engineering background, and all that below, but I'm also a pretty cool guy! Well, at least my mom says so... ;)
Jokes aside, I'm a big fan of traveling the world to discover new cultures and scenery, intentionally getting lost and wandering around new places trying all types of food and local transportation. Nature is my thing. I love waterfalls, climbing mountains, discovering new trails, camping beside lakes, and just being outside. I play the guitar, drums, piano, and I dabble on a handful of other instruments whenever I get the chance.
When we have lessons together, I would love to tell you some fun stories and hear some of yours! I have a few about encountering 2 bears, almost missing a flight because of sloths, swimming to an iceberg, and so many more!
So, as promised, more about my background and teaching:
As a Canadian native English speaker with a professional engineering background and years of teaching experience, I have worked with countless amazing professionals, students, travellers, and recent immigrants and have seen remarkable improvements in their communication. My travels throughout nearly 50 countries and my own goals learning languages have completely ignited my passion for languages, culture, and teaching others.

My teaching strategies naturally vary based on the students' needs and preferences, but my usual teaching philosophies are:
- Learning should be enjoyable. Provide an environment where students feel relaxed and comfortable to communicate.
- Confidence is key. Many obstacles with speaking a foreign language are with confidence more than technical language skills, so work on building their confidence.
- Make lessons practical and useful with actual conversations. Focus on the phrases, words, and structures that students will use the most, then progressively build on it.
- Listen to the students. They know what works for them, what they're struggling with, and how a tutor can help them the most.
