About Mahlatse

Hello there :)

My name is Mahlatse Magau, a BA Hons in Psychology Cum Laude and BA English and Psychology graduate . If I were too describe myself I would use the words flexible, intuitive, empathetic, creative, determined, kind and intelligent.

I can be thought of as a jack of many trades, being a journalist, writer, poet, communications officer and photographer professionally. I expect the same professional ability of myself when it comes to tutoring, where I provide students with a safe , structured and nurturing learning environment that respects personal boundaries and deadlines are adhered to.

My motivation for becoming a tutor is altruistic in nature; for I am deeply aware of the benefits of having a private tutor since I needed one in my matric year when I enrolled for an entirely new subject. Therefore I want to return this good deed too those in need, as the regular school environment may often not cater to the learning difficulties of students at an individual level.

I strongly believe that if a student is given the space to have their confidence built as their holistic understanding of the subject material is enhanced; they can develop a passion for the learning process and become self-sufficient academics independent from their educators. All they might need is a good tutor who can elevate them to new heights.

As a tutor I would be playing a proactive supportive role, filling in the blanks of where students lack understanding on subject understanding, improving assignment completion skills and aiding them in studying for their tests and exams.

As a psychology graduate I am eager too work with students to understand their needs and communication styles and prioritize them in the lesson plans in order for practical progress too be achieved.

About the lesson

As a tutor, students can expect a safe space where they are given the platform too ask as many questions as they please without judgement and are steadily encouraged to fall in love with the process of learning.

Teaching methodology is based on the curriculum the student's are given and additional knowledge is shared where appropriate through coordinated lessons either online or in-person.

In a typical lesson students can be taught from scratch certain learning/module outcomes as predetermined by their syllabus as well as be assisted with their homework and assignment/test/exam preparations. Students can also be assisted with their writing skills and research. Where problem areas are identified in subjects lessons are specifically drafted too address said problem area.

Lessons are aimed at students of all comprehension and confidence levels and are adapted on an individual basis. I have proficiency in the languages of English, SeTswana and Afrikaans and lessons are taught in English.
