About Ogoi

I’m an English and Kiswahili tutor with a background that brings together language, science, research, healthcare training, and community work. I hold a BSc in Biology, majoring in Molecular Biology and Immunology, and I am currently pursuing an MSc in Molecular Medicine. Over the past five years, I have worked across research, professional training, public health, and community programs, including teaching and training multiple cohorts of learners.

These experiences have taught me something I value as a tutor: sometimes a difficult idea simply needs to be explained in a different way. I enjoy making complex things clearer, communicating with people from different backgrounds, and creating an environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

My main focus is English and Kiswahili, and I enjoy helping learners from different ages, backgrounds, and levels. My wider experience in science, research, healthcare, and professional communication also gives me plenty of real-world examples to draw from.

Outside work and study, I enjoy hiking and exploring nature-I have even hiked Mount Kenya. I also play guitar and have basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, so I know what it feels like to be on the learning side of a new language.
I’m serious about helping people learn, but I believe learning should still feel human, comfortable, and enjoyable. I look forward to getting to know my learners and helping them grow in confidence along the way.

About the lesson

I believe the best language lessons are ones where you actually use the language, not just study it. My English and Kiswahili lessons are practical, interactive, and adapted to your level, goals, interests, and pace. Whether you are starting from scratch, preparing for academic or professional communication, travelling, or simply want to speak more confidently, we will focus on what you genuinely need.
A typical lesson may begin with a short review and conversation, followed by a focused topic and plenty of guided practice through discussion, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, role-play, or real-life situations. I encourage questions and mistakes because they are a natural part of learning. I give clear, supportive feedback and adjust the lesson as we go rather than following a rigid script.
What makes my approach different is the experience I bring beyond language teaching. I have 5+ years of experience in research, healthcare training, public health, community programs, and teaching. My Biology and molecular science background has taught me how to break complicated ideas into simple, understandable steps. I also have basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, so I understand from personal experience that learning a new language can sometimes feel challenging, unfamiliar, and even a little intimidating.
I especially enjoy working with children and young learners. I like combining structure with curiosity, simple examples, questions, creative activities, and a little fun. Whether you are a child discovering something new, a traveller learning Kiswahili, or an adult improving your English, my aim is for you to feel comfortable, involved, and confident using what you learn.
