About Anastasia

My name is Anastasia Brown and I am an English & film graduate, as well as freelance writer-editor who has much experience in the humanities teaching world.

Coming from the home of two arts teachers (my parents), I am incredibly passionate about education as I was so luckily enriched with such an inspiring education. I only wish to share the beauty of this with my students and am incredibly passionate about tutoring, as education is so important.

My Experience:

Remote English & Arts Teaching Assist (March 2020 - July 2020)
Hunters Hill High School - Sydney, Australia

- Sat in on remote teachers’ Zoom meetings and lesson-planning sessions to better
understand yearly curriculum of the secondary schools’ English & Visual Arts sectors

- Independently tutored SEN and second-language English students on written
expression, grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as core literature and film studies
in preparation for their NAPLAN examinations. Reported to teaching staff on progression.

Freelance Writer & Filmmaker (March 2020 - Present)

- Writer, Director, Producer, Production Design, Editor - Sydney, Australia, London, UK
- Writer, editor and website manager of digital publication ‘Dreams of the Screen’ (2020-
2023), writing newsletters and analysis’ on film, television, theatre and costume.
- Writer, director, co-producer, co-editor and art director of short crime-drama feminist
film ‘The Name Has A Price’ (March 2020 - May 2024)
- Writer, director, videographer, producer and editor of video essays ‘Back to the Moon’
(2018) and ‘Our Art in London’ (2022). Both centred on the importance of onscreen arts.
- Script reader and editor on colleagues’ freelance concept extended short film ‘Red
Lipstick’ (2023) and crime drama play ‘A Week in the Country’ (2024).

English GSCE & A-Levels Tutor (July 2022 - February 2023)
Fine Tutors, Edgware Road (Multiple Secondary Schools) - London, UK

- Taught English weekly to groups of up to 5, ages 11 - 18 across secondary schools.

- Attended month-long training alongside professional teachers to prepare lessons, study
schools’ curriculum and sharpen communication skills to ensure successful teaching.

- Led sessions assisting with grammar, punctuation, spelling, phrasing and written
expression. Gave feedback on students’ progression to teaching staff and parents.

- Worked closely with students to develop quality schoolwork and an understanding of
English exam’s content (core texts i.e. Shakespeare, comprehension, skills-based
questions, argumentative essay and creative, technical writing)

I will be able to create a class curriculum around your child’s specific focus areas for a specific schooling period (assessments, exam periods or entrance exams) or general skill set. Give my extensive arts background, I am incredibly passionate about sharing my love of creative writing and classic literature with my students, especially given some semesters’ focus on themes and core texts.

My chosen methodology:

- Inquiry-based learning
- Differentiated instruction
- Project-based learning

A typical lesson plan:

I like to start by assessing what the student is both working on and wanting to focus on within that work - be that a focus area such as creative writing, prep for assessment/exam periods and/or an overall improve in their grade. I then take into consideration any challenges and/or learning difficulties that may be present (if SEN).

From here, I work with the student on their material (homework, repeats of schoolwork, practice assessments and/or external schooling books), guiding them whilst honing in on what they want to improve upon. I am relatively flexible and am happy to work on multiple focus areas to ensure productivity, as well as keep a students' interest in the subject! Creativity, empathy and variety is what I value highly in a lesson. The beauty of teaching is to see both progression in a students' skillset and passion for their subject!
