About Marcus
Hi there! I'm Marcus and I'm currently studying my BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. I've always loved my subject and have been tutoring others for over a year now. I truly believe that a strong education in English Language and Literature is one of the most important life skills anyone can have. No matter what level and passion you have for the subject, I know that with the right teaching, the benefits of literacy are limitless. Whether it's a strong knowledge of the literary canon for wide reading and cultural understanding, or the ability to pick apart texts for effective features and impact, English has a vast array of applicable skills and I hope to be able to bring these out in my tutees! Within the field of English Literature I have a strong interest in 19th and 20th century texts. Victorian era literature is a particular favourite of mine, and whilst epic tomes of country mansions might not be for everyone, I find them especially charming and insightful for literary development and experimentation. Additionally I have training in linguistics and literary criticism and can ably apply these to students of all levels. This can range from grammar and syntax to critical analysis in various literary schools and theories. I also have skills in early medieval texts, ranging from 650 - 1350AD. I truly love what I do and hope I am able to share this with you!

I aim to style my lessons to both exam specifics and broader knowledge of the desired subject. By focusing on techniques and skills required by exam boards and pairing this with a knowledge from beyond the syllabus, I hope to give students the tools that they need to successfully tackle exams whilst broadening their horizons in the subject. My approach seeks to provide technical success and ignite a deeper interest in areas discussed, to supplement learning beyond the classroom. In my own time I make sure to research the various demands of the required exam board whilst also applying my academic knowledge to these areas to make the content more interesting and valuable in the long term. Whilst technical skill in the exam room is invaluable - broader supplementation fuelled by a genuine interest in the subject is a skill that will stay with you for life!

Details
I charge £30 per hour across all levels. For introductory lessons, I give 30 minutes free and can also offer an additional 30 minutes for a £15 pound fee.
