About Ben

I am an English Literature graduate living in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have taught English as a foreign language in China for EF where I taught children from four to seventeen. I then taught for a year in Spain where I taught both children and adults as well as teaching in the local university once a week.

About the lesson

My teaching method is versatile and it can chance from one student to the next. My experience as a teacher has taught me that everyone learns better from different stimulation. Some people prefer active and interactive learning and others prefer reading and writing. I will explore which way if the most effective for you. It also depends one what you want to focus on and improve. If your spoken English needs work then I will focus on getting you talking as much as possible and if it's your writing that is holding you back then this is what we will work on more.

In my teaching experience I have learnt to adapt with each student and to find what gets them motivated. In my classes I want you to be doing most of the talking and you should think independently to solve the problems in front of you. My teaching method is different to that of the generic school technique and this means you will be engaged as much as possible. We will do a lot of practical work to keep the sessions energetic and flowing.

I have experience teaching all kinds of students for a wide variety of reasons so whether you need to improve your speaking, prepare for exams, or gain a certain level of English for a new job or trip abroad then I have everything you need to be proficient in no time.

I have taught specialist courses in phonics and grammar to a high standard too so if you're worried about your child falling behind at school then I am more than happy to help them get up to speed and can help them prepare for exams such as SATS.

I have a degree in English Literature and can offer support with reading and writing which can often be the area that students struggle with the most.
