About CHARLOTTE

To prepare me for tutoring, I have been a professional teacher for 30+ years in private and public schools. During that time I taught elementary students from grades PreK4-5th. Also, I received the required graduate school training to teach elementary gifted children in grades 1-6 for several years. Later I earned a Master's in Education Administration and Supervision. In addition to teaching elementary students, I taught college preparatory Reading, Study Skills, and Freshman English at a local community college after completing more graduate study in those subjects. I am further a freelance writer who has published nonfictional articles and essays in educator, pet, and religious magazines. Another nonfiction publication has been a recent book I wrote about my life faith journey, now marketed on Amazon. My attempt into fiction writing includes a children's book about a child seeking self-esteem, yet to be published for the public.

About the lesson

We will take a deep dive into essay writing and grammar by focusing on word study and word usage, conventional grammar rules, and sentence and paragraph structure. With essay writing I will emphasize the importance of theme development, clear and vivid supporting details, and tailoring writing according to the audience. Essay writing includes grades 3-12, college students, and adults. For those choosing Classical/Contemporary Literature, there is a similar approach using a detailed analysis of what the author said, its importance to the audience, the layers of meaning the author intended, and the cultural context from which it came. For fictional literature the focus will be on plot, character, and setting development in telling the story. Classical/Contemporary Literature includes grades 1-12 with phonetic and comprehension skills as needed, college students, and adults seeking a richer knowledge of fiction and nonfiction.
