About Olivia
My name is Olivia, I'm 20 years old and currently in my third year of Biomedical Science at University. I lived in the UK until year 9 and then moved to Southern Spain. I began to learn and study in Spanish and it changed my life. It was challenging but I am now so grateful to have a second language, it provides a lot of great opportunities, such as this teaching job. I have a younger brother and sister, so when I lived in Spain I taught a lot of their Spanish friends English. My parents knew a lot of English families that wanted Spanish tutoring for their kids, so I tutored them in my spare time too.
Overall, I feel like because I learnt Spanish at a similar age to the children I am tutoring I can understand the challenges they may face as I myself have also been through that.

Beginning to learn a language during my teenage years was challenging but it is worth it and it puts me in a position to understand the difficulties that students face and how much time and effort it takes to learn a new language. In the past, I have tutored a variety of different age groups in both English and Spanish and I have realized that when learning a new language, each student learns, interprets and understands differently. I find that the best way to learn a language is by practising daily and incorporating it into your life with movies, songs, podcasts, etc. Learning a language is not easy, however, if you put in the time and effort it is 100% worth it in the end.
In a teaching setting, I think that 1-1 lessons should last around 1 hour as any more than that I find it harder for the student to continue to concentrate.
