About Anya
I am at university studying English, with the hope of carrying on to a masters degree in which would enable me to teach English to speakers of another language, followed by a PGCE which would enable me to be a secondary school English teacher. I would love to be a teacher as I love helping people further themselves and achieve to the best of their ability. I believe everyone can achieve the grades they wish to achieve with help and self confidence, that’s why I would love to be a tutor as I want to help people who feel they lack confidence to build on this and believe in themselves. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

Each session would be catered to every students individual needs as I understand not everybody learns the same way. I could set up a plan with each student in which aspects of the subject/exam they would prefer to focus on giving plenty of time to focus on specific needs each session. I prefer to use a trial and error method when it comes to practicing exam questions, in which students can practice questions and later evaluate where they went wrong and note this down to ensure it is included in the next practice question. Over time the student would build a checklist from memory ensuring they include every point throughout their exam response. As English exams are long answer questions, I would ask students to complete practice questions outside of sessions as this gives opportunity for us to discuss improvements in sessions rather than waste session times answering questions, this also ensures extra revision is completed outside of school. However, if a student would prefer to go through step by step answering questions with me I would be happy to do that too! As for spelling this would be practiced in session with recall, I would ask the student to create a word bank in which we could build upon over time which includes the words students struggle with, eventually the student will have a book of words in which we can practice spelling and writing out, which would improve overall spelling performance. If the student does not need a lot of attention on spelling, but could do with a little practice, I would still advise creating a word bank in which I would create mini spelling tests from that could be completed within the session as well as other tasks. When it comes to reading, every student is different, if a student needs help with learning how to read we can do this in session by taking time to read what will be on the exam so they become more familiar with the texts and then move onto analysis, much like you would have to do in an exam. However, if the student is confident with reading and just needs support with analysis, I could create comprehension tasks in which I would ask the student to read a section of a text outside of the session and we would answer the comprehension that is specific to that text together and discuss the students reasons for their answer, this would spark analysis for the student and with practice the student would then be able to set their own comprehension questions which would help when answering exam questions. A typical session would last approximately an hour to an hour and a half however if a shorter or longer session is required this can be arranged. I have previously taught in secondary schools as a private tutor working independently with students who need that little bit of extra support. I am a university student in second year studying English, therefore I have a strong knowledge of the subject. The methods I have previously mentioned are what I use now and what I used whilst completing my a-levels which helped me achieve a grade A. My sessions would be best for students from year 9-13 as I focus mainly on exam practice, however I would be happy to help students in lower years to prepare for the beginning of GCSE.
