About Emma

I bring a strong record of academic achievements and extensive experience having been both a student and a tutor.

Due to the shift to online learning from Covid- 19 and an extended period of illness, I independently taught myself most of the GCSE course throughout years 9 and 10. Despite my school absences, I received full marks across multiple English literature papers and ranked as the highest-performing student in my GCSE English class. By sticking to the same learning habits at A- level, I achieved 59/60 in my English Literature A-Level coursework, maintained a streak of A*s throughout the year and secured A*s in all three A-Level exam papers- placing me in the top 12% of my cohort throughout Years 12 and 13.

My achievements throughout the year and in my exams are due to the learning structure I implemented which involved a clear method of planning essays and forming analytical interpretations - a system I now use to guide my students. I have experience teaching students from KS3 to GCSE and A-Level and two of my A-Level students recently received 60/60 and 58/60 in their coursework with my help. I find that often students already have great opinions on texts but do not yet know how to articulate their language in a way that is academically fluent and accurately represents their ideas. In most cases, the struggle is understanding the mark scheme. Therefore, I will show you how to best write your answers in a way that will allow you to hit the highest marks by also sharing stock phrases and structural techniques that I used in my own exams.

I also have experience teaching English to students for whom it is a second language. Being trilingual in English, Italian, and French gives me a strong understanding of how languages are learned, allowing me to support students with varying levels of fluency, guide intensive reading and improve their comprehension skills.

About the lesson

In the first lesson, I will ask you to show me essays you have already written so we can understand what level you are working at and how to build up your answers.

We can tailor the lessons to your needs in both the English Language and Literature sections, whether that is improving essay writing skills, understanding the books you have to read for school, doing indepth analysis on certain characters and essay planning so that you can go confidently into your exams.

I am familiar with many texts part of different GCSE and A-Level sylabuses, however, in my course some of the main authors were Shakespeare, Dickens, Shelley, Atwood, Keats and many more.

I am flexible with timings so I can conduct 2+ hour lessons if wanted and I also conduct lessons during the summer holidays for students who want to catch up or get ahead on their course.

Lessons are for all KS3, GCSE students and A- Level students. The first lesson will be free.
