About Gordon
Hello! My name is Julian and I look forward to being your teacher. I am a graduate of the International TEFL Academy and certified as a Level 5 teacher who has taught over 3500 lessons to over 100 learners and received dozens of five-star reviews since 2023. I hold a doctorate in psychology (Ph.D.) have worked for over 35 years as a teacher, counselor, and psychologist. In addition to private tutoring, I currently teach English classes and consult at the Siena Literacy Center, the Dominican Learning Center, the Triumph Training Center. In professional practice, I have gained extensive expertise in working successfully with young children, teens, and adults. I have a great deal of specialized training and several certifications to work with children and adults including those who have emotional or learning difficulties.
I especially love to teach the language skills and knowledge that individuals need to have self-confidence and success in their lives. In my work with young students, I use several modern, individualized, and holistic approaches to help them advance greatly in their communication skills and become effective problem-solvers. I also use many of the finest learning programs, such as Oxford Discover and Oxford Discover Futures, to facilitate the development of self-confidence, social skills, and emotional balance, which are necessary to navigate through life’s challenges.
With adult learners, I have truly enjoyed teaching English to many professionals from the fields of psychology, medicine, business, law, engineering, language translation, and sciences. Working with adult learners I use great learning materials, including American English File and Step Forward, that motivate and enable each learner to achieve their specific learning goals while advancing in their careers.
Many of my adult students also have an interest in psychology and are learning or studying psychology or studying psychology in their schools or colleges. They see an advantage to studying English with a credentialed teacher and psychologist. This is a unique opportunity for them to work with a teacher who has an expert background
Some students have challenges that make learning more difficult for them e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, low self-confidence, anxiety, nervousness, and learning disabilities. I specialize in helping these individuals have success in an enjoyable, positive, and rewarding learning experience. I use learning methods backed by solid, current best practices to facilitate learning.
