About Tarryn
I am a part-time English teacher, working at an Independent school in Johannesburg. I have experience in tutoring various curricula, including CAPS, Cambridge, and IEB. Under my tutelage, my students' marks usually improve by an average of 15% (one of the best results I have had was when I worked with a Grade 11 on a dedicated daily, just prior to her exams: within just one month, her English mark rose by 14%). In addition to my experience as a high school teacher, I have also taught at a university level, both in South Africa and overseas. I am currently studying my PGCE part-time via Wits; prior to this, I received my Master's in Philosophy from Brock University in Ontario, Canada. Additionally, i hold an Honours degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Sciences, both from the University of Cape Town.

As a general rule, my lessons really 'begin' prior to the actual class,due to the extensive lesson prep I undertake before each session. How each class proceeds is largely dependent on the student: however, generally these consist in marking the homework given from the previous lesson; moving on to new conceptual ground, making use both of the learner's existing resources (e.g. textbooks) and those I have designed myself; and working on the learner's upcoming tasks and assignments. Depending on the learner's needs, lessons can also include things like exam/test time-tabling; general skills development; and in-depth revision, to name a few aspects.
